JanSport® Announces the Top Five Finalists in its Online Battle of the Bands Competition
San Leandro, Calif. (Sept. 15, 2009) - JanSport, the original outdoor gear Brand that equips people globally with quality backpacks, travel gear and collegiate apparel, today announced the top five finalists in its online Battle of the Bands competition, in partnership with The Forecastle Festival, the largest gathering of musicians, artists, and environmentalists in the Midwest.
The competition will be open to online public voting at www.jansport.com/forecastle through October 15, 2009. The five finalist bands include:
Duck and Cover
Duck and Cover, a St. Louis duo, composes tunes inspired by a variety of musicians. Jeff Horwitz on Guitar and Vocals and Alan Schreiner on Bass, Keys, Vocals and Guitar create all aspects of the songs from the soaring guitars, to the drums, back to the melodic vocals.
Ghost Ghost
Ghost Ghost is a New York City rock band, formed in 2008 by bassist Kevin Peckham and guitarist Karl Ward. Their common roots in poetry and music formed the basis for Ghost Ghost -- the name chosen by Peckham to describe the nature of music itself as a "present absence." Seeking a drummer whose energy matched the duo's music, Peckham recruited drummer Tim Ireland to complete the power trio lineup with his highly technical prog/funk drumming.
Quinn Erwin
Quinn Erwin is a transplant: born in Virginia Beach, later moving to Ohio and Mississippi with a few excursions in between. His music moves as often as he does. Always changing and growing, Quinn relates his experiences, the warm and poignant to the rough and dark, through song. Quinn has been performing and writing for the past 11 years, working toward creating and perfecting an original sound to bring a new voice and a new vision to modern music.
Random Ninjas
Random Ninjas is a rock band spawned from the critical mass of global culture in the heart of Los Angeles. Founded by their guitarist, this group of talented musicians has been hitting the local rock scene with a brand spanking new style of music that intrigues listeners of all persuasions.
Sun Dry Cilo
Sun Dry Cilo formed in Miami, FL in early 2007 demonstrating a unique mixture of classic rock, technical musicianship and song composition and 90s and modern rock influences. Driving drum beats and innovative and funk style bass lines with melodic guitar melodies and extremely catchy hooks Sun Dry Cilo has been able to establish themselves as an elite force in the South Florida music scene.
JanSport will announce the grand prize winner at the "Halfway to Forecastle" concert in Louisville, Kentucky in January 2010. The winning band will have the opportunity to share the stage with some of the biggest names in music and play in front of thousands of fans, press and industry reps at the Forecastle Festival in Louisville, KY next July.
