Song Of the Week from Lonely Forest

This week we’ve added the track “We Sing In Time” from Washington band Lonely Forest into the music player. The band, consisting of singer/guitarist/keyboardist John Van Deusen, guitarist Tony Ruland, drummer Braydn Krueger, and bassist Eric Sturgeon, released their new album, Arrows this past March with Chris Walla’s (guitarist and producer for Death Cab For Cuite) Trans Records.

Lonely Forest certainly owes a bit of their sound to Death Cab, but there is also a pop rock side that makes the songs a bit catchier and fall less into the epic art rock realm that Death Cab so comfortably occupies. Fans of alternative-pop, like Dan Wilson/Semisonic, Jimmy Eat World, and even old school REM will find loads of things to love about this band.

The guys will be touring with Minus the Bear this fall, so keep an eye out for upcoming dates in your city!

New Milagres Single

JanSport Unzipped Compilation artist Milagres recently posted a new single for listen AND download on their Facebook page in anticipation of the release of their debut album on label Kill Rock Stars. Check out the shout out Seattle Weekly’s Blog gave the band and check out this live performance from the our compilation release show last October.

We LOVE these guys and can’t wait to hear the finished album!

Check this out: Two legendary acts played their first gigs on this day.

On July 13th, 1963, The Rolling Stones played their first show appearing at The Alcove Club, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire supporting The Hollies.

On July 13th, 1968, Black Sabbath played their first gig at a small blues club in Birmingham, England.

We just got a special sneak peak (well, technically listen) at the new full length album from the Broderick. The band is working on mixes of the album back in their hometown of Bloomington, Indiana, but they’ve been reluctant to set a release date quite yet (singer Max Mullen says, “we’re taking our time. What’s the rush?”) When it does drop, though, we’re expecting big things for this band.

The new tracks are classic Broderick, combining ole’ fashion rock n’roll, indie rock aesthetic and a dose of folk rock charm. The tracks bring something else to the table, though. The listener can literally hear the maturity in the band (the last studio tracks from these guys were recorded when most of them weren’t even old enough to drink.) The songs are a bit longer, the lyrical content more developed, and the band a bit tighter. The Broderick have traded a bit of the bombast for finesse, and the result is a sonic snapshot of a band that sounds completely comfortable and at ease with who they are.

Seriously, get excited for this one.
