Had a great time hanging with our new friends and JanSport Battle of the Bands winners the Seedy Seeds last night at Hotel Utah in San Francisco. That’s all anyone could say as we left the club where Chicago’s A Lull just finished a SXSW showcase set of what can best be described as “experimental-indie-post-rock”. We actually stumbled across the show by accident as we left another showcase next door and saw a band setting up what looked like an entire stage worth of drums. Another one of our top shows at SXSW: Rival Sons This LA band proves that good ole’ Rock & Roll is still alive and well with monster guitar riffs, howling vocals and an obvious infatuation with Led Zeppelin. A few of us at JanSport made our way out to a party hosted by Madison House Inc., a booking agency best known for representing jam-band festival staples like The String Cheese Incident, Bassnectar, Keller Williams and The New Deal. SXSW was a blast this year, as expected. Like all good things though, it couldn’t last forever. Our Mardi Gras party in Boulder on Saturday was a BLAST! The Broderick started the night off like pouring gasoline on a match. Openers are supposed to get a crowd hyped up, and The Broderick definitely succeeded there! The energy was infectious! They also debuted a whole bunch of material off of their upcoming LP. Dumpstaphunk, of course, brought the funk and kept people’s booties shakin for their entire 90 minute set.
