JanSport will be at the 10^th annual Teva Mountain Games, the country’s largest celebration of adventure sports, art, music and the mountain lifestyle , Friday, June 3 through Sunday, June 5 in Vail, Colorado. Professional and amateur outdoor adventure athletes from around the world will converge upon the mountains and rivers of Vail to compete in eight sports and 23 disciplines for more than $100,000 in prize money!

Back From Bouldering in Bishop, CA

The Infinite

I’m finally back from a couple weeks on the road, a little crack climbing in Indian Creek in the Moab, UT area and some bouldering in Bishop, California.

I was able to drag myself up a very cool boulder problem, “The Infinite” v10 in El Dorado Springs, Colorado. It was put up by Paul Robinson at the grade of v11 a few years ago. It’s definitely a very astetic boulder problem that revolves around 2 very small crimps, or a giant dyno. I chose the latter method.

Ice Climbing In Clear Creek Canyon

Due to the insane weather conditions across the United States this week climbing has been tricky. Over the last couple of days the Rocky Mountains have gone from record low temperatures ( reaching -20 without windchill) to ideal avalanche conditions of warmer temps and heavy snow.

Beginning to feel a bit insane myself after a week of indoor training I ventured into Clear Creek Canyon for some ice and fresh air. I loaded up my Tehipite pack with my ice tools and crampons and headed up highway six from Denver. The route ascends some 500 feet up the canyon wall the ice intervals between large rock ledges. As speed is style I went for it light and solo shooting to ascend in as little time as possible. I wanted to bring an empty bag with me to Europe to fill with gifts, but I knew it would be too heavy to use as a carry-on for the return flight, in addition to not wanting to pay 50 euro for an empty bag on my outbound flight. After all of my deliberating, I brought a large duffle that would fit into the overhead bin and stashed my Catalyst inside. On my way back to the U.S., I checked the duffle (full of wine, olive oil and other goodies) and had the Catalyst as my carry-on. Perfecto!
