Teen who summited Everest to tackle Antarctica Next

15-year-old Jordan Romero made international headlines last year when he set the world record by climbing Mount Everest. The California teenager has another big challenge ahead. Jordan will travel to Antarctica to begin ascending 16,000 feet up Mount Vinson Massif, the tallest mountain on the continent.

1. Mount Khuiten

The mountain straddles the corners of Russia, China and Mongolia. To reach it, trekkers must cross a golden, vast, and barren landscape that is one of the last remote regions on Earth. Mount Khuiten is 14,350 feet (4,374 meters) high.

2. Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

Flat-topped Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain. Located on Tanzania’s northern border with Kenya, the mountain is made up of three extinct volcanoes, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. The highest peak, Uhuru, is 19,340 feet (5,899 meters) high.

3. The Andes, Peru

The Inca Trail is an in-depth journey through a variety of ecosystems, from plains to desert to tropical cloud forests. The highlight is Machu Picchu, 7,970 feet (2,430 meters), the famed lost city of the Inca that was discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham.Then continue your trek to what was the heart and soul of the Inca Empire, Cusco.

4-Mount Everest, Nepal

Rising 29,035 feet (8,856 meters) above sea level, Everest is the highest mountain on Earth.

More than 2,000 climbers have made ascents through South Col and it is, by far, the most successfully climbed route on the mountain.

5-The Matterhorn, Switzerland

Nestled in the Swiss Alps, the Matterhorn, 14,692 feet (4,478 meters), is the most recognized mountain on the European continent. In the shape of a roughly chiseled rock pyramid, this peak serves as a defining geographical landmark.

Summit for Someone Pairs Philanthropy and Climbing

Big City Mountaineers, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving urban youth through outdoor expeditions, announced the eighth season of its Summit for Someone fundraising climb service. Participants in the Summit for Someone program receive the chance to travel, climb the world’s premier mountains and impact the lives of urban youth by raising funds for Big City Mountaineers.

The schedule incorporates 24 separate climbs on 12 peaks including Mt. Rainier and Mt. Kilimanjaro. Summit for Someone climbs will generate over half a million dollars in revenue to support future expedition projects.

This year, the fundraiser will start with a group of industry leaders from Black Diamond, Backpacker magazine, Polartec, The North Face, Nike and others climbing The Grand Teton on September 15. During the trip, the leaders will discuss the future of Big City Mountaineers and how to work with community philanthropy as a whole.

This first climb will also significantly help fund a portion of the non-profit’s expedition missions which mentor urban youth in the outdoors. As Jon Dorn, Editor of Backpacker magazine said, “With the fundraising from these leaders alone, this climb will underwrite nearly the entire expedition program for one of four regions Big City Mountaineers operates from.”

Fresh off his trip to Thailand, Matt managed to make it out to South Dakota to do some “light” climbing and he made sure to send us a few pictures. Matt will be out in Colorado with the Climb X climbing team this weekend for their annual photo shoot and the whole crew will be doing some demo testing of our new Spring ‘12 Cloudripper day packs. Sailing Down the Coast of Baja Mexico

Ryan Levinson, Outside’s Reader of the Year, recently took a sailing trip down the coast of Baja Mexico to surf and kiteboard remote point breaks along the way. He and his friends took turns running the boat overnight then spent the days surfing. They scored incredible, completely deserted waves over and over again – truly a dream trip for surfers around the world.
