I love the small 8000m pack for fast, on the fly trips. I also think it will make a great summit pack– easy to carry as a complement to a large backpack. The back padding is very nice for such a lightweight, flexible pack . I also think it will be a great pack for the follower on multipitch rock routes for carrying light rain gear, snacks and water. I’m sure I could climb relatively hard climbs with no interference to balance, don’t think I would even know it was there!

Great shoe companies make great shoes, great pack companies make great packs
Today I test drove the Mazama at Smith Rocks, Oregon. The pack is terrific. First I must confess to loving the color, any version of desert clay I find immediately attractive. The materials for the shoulder straps and back slide effortlessly on and off, multiple compartments provide easy access and the padded small top compartment is pleasing to the touch. Compression straps throughout are lightweight, well thought out and easy to work. I like the toggles on the zippers, again, easy to work. I felt like I had a light little pillow on my back today even though I was loaded down a bit.
